01-Charlotte Becker - Hello, Mamma!
Embroidered Postcards (also called Silk Cards) were made for the first time in the 1900 for the Paris Exposition. They were very popular at 1920ies reaching their highest popularity at WW1 period of time.
There are different techniques of making Embroidered Postcards. They can be made either by hand, or by machine. That can be a Printed-Paper-Card with silk embroidered on it, or a Silky-Fabric attached on the Paper-Card, or it can be a combination of both. Also it can be a Design-Printed-on-Fabric and attached on Paper-Card as Border-Decoration. All depends from the fantasy of the Artist that is making them. These Techniques give the Postcard a 3-dimensional look.It is interesting to see how the very same Postcard can look so different after being embroidered. Now, here are the 2 Original-Postcards of Gallarda followed by the many Embroidered-Versions of them made by various artists.
